Peace Convergence activists aim to disrupt Talisman Sabre

AS AUSTRALIA'S military prepares for Talisman Sabre operations, another group is doing some preparations of its own.

Peace activists from all over Australia will converge on the military operation at Shoalwater Bay, with local activist Graeme Dunstan leading the Peace Convergence 2015.

The "captain" of the Peacebus was arrested back in 2011 for disabling a new Australian Army Tiger Attack helicopter during Talisman Sabre, along with the late Bryan Law.

Graeme describes Peace Convergence as a celebration of peace and war resistance.

"There are lots of people in Rocky who are unhappy about the endless wars which the US alliance has led us into," he said.

The group will be involved in debates, concerts, parades, protests, blockades and what they are describing as "peace pilgrim" intrusions onto the Shoalwater Exercise Area.

Graeme said they aimed to disrupt the so-called "war rehearsals" and create counter narratives to highlight the cost of the US-Australia military alliance.

Graeme has painted a new mural for the Peacebus, with a strong message: "No more US wars".

The mural is being painted at Havachat, a community drop-in centre and arts workshop at 20 East St which will be the organising base for Peace ConvergenceHQ.

People can drop in and talk about what they are doing and how they feel about the wars.
