Missing boots on display for sole searchers

'Sole searching': Police attempt to lace up bizarre theft

HAVE you lost your sole?

No, you read that line right. This isn't a question about your inner spiritual workings but a legitimate query from the Victorian Police.

The state authorities put out the call after finding nearly 2,500 pairs of working boots and sneakers, allegedly pilfered from front doors over six years, in Melbourne last November.

Police held an open day on Sunday for victims to reclaim their stolen footwear.

"I was spewing when they got stolen last year," victim Luke O'Reilly told the Herald Sun.

"I'm hoping they're here somewhere."

A 43-year-old man has been charged with theft and the handling of stolen goods.

First Constable James Gardiner was at loss for words to describe the motive behind the crime.

"I honestly couldn't tell you. It's one of those things…sort of baffles even me at times," Constable Gardiner said.
