Pies fans kick a Muster goal
IT WAS a feat of great skill, the winning pass taken all the way to the goalposts by Collingwood’s best supporters – the Sullivan family.
The long-time Magpie fans from Melbourne, Yepoon, Gladstone and Cairns get together once a year at the Optus Gympie Music Muster and this year they are looking to take the best campsite prize.
Every year they set up their camp and deck it out in Collingwood garb, but this year, says Vivienne Sullivan (from Melbourne), they had gone bigger and better.
The campsite now includes a mini-football field complete with goal posts and XXXX sponsorship signage. And a cardboard cut-out of player Dale Thomas who could pass for Gympie player Lachlan Keeffe – as his head is missing (so fans can have their photo taken with his body).
“We hope to win an esky or swag,” Ms Sullivan said of the competition.
“We could take it in turns sharing next year,” she joked.
Apparently there are a lot of Dockers’ fans about and when it came to the Australian rules football code you either loved Collingwood or hated them.
“We get so much feedback.”
At camp there is also a (mag)pie van, premiership cup, Magpie army and plenty of other Pies’ gear.
“And we’re very happy someone from Gympie is now playing for the Magpies!”
