Perth-born Idol contestant Michael Johns dies, 35

US Celebrity website hollywoodreporter.com is reporting that Perth-born singer-songwriter Michael Johns has died in his sleep overnight.

The cause of death is believed to be a blod clot in the 35-year-old's ankle.

Johns, born Michael John Lee, was best known for competing in the 2008 season of American Idol, in which he came eighth place and earned a contract to release his 2009 album Hold Back My Heart.

As a teen Johns appeared in a number of stage productions including Pinocchio and Anything Goes, both in Perth.
