People pay $500 to have lunch with Cr O'Connell in Brisbane

DEVELOPERS and businesspeople based in Brisbane will fork out $500 each to have lunch with mayor Gerard O'Connell.

Cr O'Connell will spend Wednesday in Brisbane and entertain guests at the Cha Cha Char restaurant at the Eagle St Pier in Brisbane's CBD.

To help fund his campaign for re-election, the lunch in Brisbane is expected to be the first of three for Cr O'Connell.

Speaking to the Chronicle on his way to the event, Cr O'Connell said fundraising lunches were a regular part of campaigning.

"Like many other candidates I welcome those who want to make a contribution to my campaign because these are expensive things to run," he said.

Cr O'Connell said his first event in Brisbane was for people who lived in the city but had involvement on the Fraser Coast

"A number of people are interested with what is happening on the Fraser Coast and they are interested in my vision," he said.

About 24 people are expected to attend.

"It will be properly accounted for," he said.

Cr O'Connell will hold another event in Hervey Bay next week and may also add a third fundraiser.

Do you think campaign fundraisers should be held outside the Fraser Coast?
