READERS DISCCUSION: Paywave not a popular option

AFTER a story appeared in The Bulletin about a criminal going on a spending spree using a stolen credit card with paywave, we asked readers what they thought of the technology. It doesn't appear to be very popular.

Peter Jaggard - It is a stupid idea. In addition they remove signing for a credit card purchase because of security. What a joke. Also, with paywave the money comes out of your account straight away but the shop doesn't get the money sometimes for up to a week later.

Kylie Smith - Signing for credit cards was a joke - no one checked the signatures. You could write dogs breakfast on the slip and most people wouldn't even realise. Pin is a far more secure option

Michael Ned Kelly - hate the idear and u have no choice to opt out

Leigh Close - Not all banks make you use pay wave just shop around mate

Dianne Symons - If you report it to the bank the money is returned to your account. I like it because if someone sees you using your pin they can spend a lot more than the daily limit allowed on payway

Debbie-Rah Burfoot - I dislike it! I had someone break into my house and stole my purse and car. Used $180 on my card. I did get the money back, 10days later. Although it did show up on my bank statement where he used my card so the police tracked him down (he made it to Maryborough). The guy had to even do 2 transactions to pay for crap, within 3mins of each other! Should just get rid of it all together.

Jill Harbeck - I really DISLIKE it ! I never use it , not only is it a bad thing if your card is stolen but it takes longer to show up in your account

Ric Simon - I like it! While I respectfully understand other people's views, i do not agree. I think it is quick and easy, both as a user - as well as a small business retailer. I'd rather you payWave then pay for your $4 coffee with a $50 note and take all our change.

If you are worried about losing your wallet, I would also suggest you better not carry any cash in it! Because that would be gone before your payWave is used.

Did you in the USA - you can't use a pin or payWave? You still have to sign for every transaction. It really slows the checkout process down, and you know the staff checking your signature really don't care if it's a match or not. So you could question that process when it comes to security.

Toulouse Dunbar - I don't have a pay wave card but I do agree with you in the signature bit.

Natalie Webber - DISLIKE for all the same reason listed by Jill Harbeck. I can't believe in this privacy-mad, super regulated pc world we live in, that some genius actually thought this was a great idea!?! Plus it's been forced on us. Absolute madness.

Do you like or dislike paywave? Why? http://ow.ly/PmqGp
