LETTER TO EDITOR: Now is the time to push for new states

NEW states for Queensland. Update: it's an ongoing saga.

Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter has welcomed a federal grant of $36million for road funding for his electorate. No doubt other electorates will be beneficiaries of similar grants. In comparison, an article in the Courier Mail of July 2 indicated $2.5billion would be required for infrastructure for Brisbane's cross river rail link.

An article the following day in the Courier Mail (July 3) detailed a "push for the Bruce" campaign to begin to make the main highway between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast six lanes.

A study alone into this will require $8million at the outset.

I await Saturday's paper with interest, but won't mention funding for the South Coast staging of the 2016 Commonwealth Games.

Given the above, it seems timely for Mr Katter and Senator Canavan of Rockhampton to be renewing the forever ongoing push for new States for Queensland.
