North Burnett Regional Council holds Seniors afternoon tea

NORTH Burnett Regional Council will celebrate Seniors Week on August 18, with events in the regional libraries.

The celebratory day will include sharing stories sessions, Nintendo Wii activities and photographic exhibitions.

There will also be an afternoon tea in each of the libraries from 2.30pm.

Mayor Rachel Chambers said Seniors Week was an opportunity for locals to celebrate the valuable contributions of older people.

"Seniors Week is an opportunity for all of us not only to acknowledge the huge part our older generation plays in our lives and communities but to celebrate this fact," Cr Chambers said.

"Seniors are the pot of gold within a community.

"Not only do they regularly assist families with their caring responsibilities but many of our community groups and services would cease to exist without seniors volunteering their time and extensive efforts.

"Older generations have extensive life experience and work backgrounds and we need to harness their knowledge and experiences in order for our community to be the best it can be."

Seniors Week runs from August 13-21.

For more information phone the council on 1300696272.
