Nominate your Australia Day hero now

Do you know someone who truly makes the Gold Coast a better place? If you do, now's the time to nominate them for a City of Gold Coast Australia Day Award.

Mayor Tom Tate is urging the Gold Coast community to consider people or groups who are worthy of recognition for helping to make our city a better place to live. 'This annual awards program recognises and honours the outstanding achievement of individuals and groups within our community,' he said. 'Whether it's a sporting, environmental or cultural endeavour, we want to know about it!'

The awards ceremony will be very different this time around with the 14 January 2016 event to be an evening cocktail function at Q1. The Awards are offered in the following six categories:

Gold Coast Citizen of the Year - recognises outstanding members of the community for their personal endeavours, achievements and community input.

Gold Coast Young Citizen of the Year - recognises young citizens for their personal endeavours, achievements and community input.

Gold FM Community Service Award - recognises individuals or groups who have provided outstanding service to the community.

Sports Achievement Award - recognises the committee sportsperson, coach, administrator or official whose actions inspire others and enrich the community through sport.

Environmental Achievement Award - recognises individuals or groups who demonstrate genuine passion for the environment and strive to improve it.

Cultural Achievement Award - recognises individuals or groups involved in the city's rich cultural and arts community.

To nominate a Gold Coast citizen for an award, please apply online at www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/community/australia-day-awards-13276.html, download a nomination form, or pick one up from your local library or Customer Service Centre.

Nominations close on 13 November 2015 and the winners will be announced on Thursday 14 January 2016. Please contact the City Events team on (07) 5581 5286 with any enquiries.
