Nominate to contribute to the region’s cultural heritage

NOMINATIONS are being sought from community members who have a commitment to cultural heritage to join the Sunshine Coast Cultural Heritage Reference Group.

Council's Community Services Director Coralie Nichols said the Sunshine Coast Cultural Heritage Reference Group provided strategic advice on preserving and accessing cultural heritage in the region.

"Interested people with experience in the heritage sector, business, tourism, creative industries or marketing are invited to nominate for these important voluntary positions which are available for a period of up to two years," Ms Nichols said.

"There are four positions available and the successful applicants will join representatives of traditional owner groups, museums, heritage practitioners and architects, historical societies, business, tourism and the wider community to help raise the profile of cultural heritage in the region.

"They will have the opportunity to contribute to a shared vision for cultural heritage that is inclusive, relevant, and innovative.

"The Reference Group meets four times a year and assists in forming strategic priorities for expenditure of the Heritage Levy, in alignment with the Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan, 2015-2020.

"Importantly, they also support the development of a regional network of individuals, organisations, and museums in the heritage sector.

"The Reference Group identifies partners and opportunities to preserve, access, and enhance cultural heritage across our beautiful region."

Applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to cultural heritage are invited to apply by 5pm Saturday, April 23.
