Noosa students complete nutrition study on peers

Noosa District State High School Year 11 Social and Community Studies students presented the results of a 8 week analytical study into the health of adolescents during their lesson.

The class found the findings obtained through surveys, reflections and observations to be very interesting, with most Year 11 Social and Community Studies students concluding that many of their peers need education and positive role modelling to improve healthy eating.

The Year 11 Social and Community Studies students presented their findings from surveys completed by their peers on diet and eating habits, and made recommendations on how adolescents within the NDSHS community can improve their health.

Recommendations included educational food campaigns targeting teens; healthy additions to the tuck shop menu; ensuring all students eat breakfast every day and a shift in mindset for many teenagers, whereby takeaway food is seen as something to be eaten on rare occasions, not every day.

Some Year 11 Social and Community Students demonstrated the ease at which healthy meals can be prepared, and by offering samples to the class, proved how tasty nutritious food can be.

Healthy eating campaigns were created by the Social and Community Studies students, and the elements behind these advertisements were explained and justified in detail, with many making correlations between these campaigns and researched improvements in healthy eating within a variety of case studies.

The presentations were informative, with many students now viewing their diets and approach to nutrition in ways vastly different to the beginning of this school term.
