Mums will sing praises at choir concert
EVERYTHING'S Coming Up Roses for music-loving mums going to Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir's concert on Sunday, May 15.
Mother's Day gift ideas are never easy but the gift of song might just be the ticket.
The acclaimed local choir will present their tribute to mothers at 2pm at the Flinders Performance Centre, so there's still time to buy a ticket and present it to her this Sunday.
Everything's Coming Up Roses is a concert honouring and celebrating mothers and will showcase the internationally acclaimed choir's versatility, with music as varied as Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lennon and McCartney, Stephen Sondheim, beautiful sacred pieces, Irish folk songs and even some gospel and jazz.
The concert will also feature the Oriana Youth Choir and selected soloists.
"The concert is not just about mums, though," Oriana president and mother-of-four boys Melissa Innes said.
"We all know women who live their lives for others.
"Its about celebrating that spirit of motherhood."
The concert will be the first official Oriana Arts event for new music director Sandra Milliken.
A highly acclaimed composer, conductor, adjudicator and music educator based in Brisbane, Milliken has had a long involvement with choral music.
She also conducts the Bayside Divas and most recently led the Blackstone Ipswich Cambrian Choir to the Grand Champion Choir Title at the Queensland Eisteddfod.
