Much-loved Toowoomba radio host dies after cancer battle

A MUCH-LOVED Toowoomba radio host has died after a battle with leukaemia.

Terry Kerr passed away on Friday in his sleep, at the age of 66, one week before his 67th birthday.

Mr Kerr leaves behind his wife Lisa-Jane Kerr and seven children.

He has been in the radio business since 1971, working at 4AK and 4GR before starting his own station Power FM with friend and fellow host Geoff Roberts.

Mr Roberts has been friends with Mr Kerr since the 1990s when they worked together at 4AK as the TK and the Morning Crew.

He said it was devastating to not only lose a business partner but a best mate.

"Terry has been ill for a very long time and his body just couldn't take it any more, everything was taking a massive toll on his body," he said.

"He was a very talented and funny man with a great sense of humour. He was a top bloke and I don't think we ever had cross words.

"He was a very private man but loved all his listeners and being able to share with them every day.

"He loved being in radio, it was in his blood."

Mr Roberts shared the heart-breaking news on the Power FM Facebook page.

He said people's kind words and condolences were overwhelming.

Jeffrey Black said: "A true professional. Terry's wicked humour and quick come-back will be sorely missed. Now broadcasting from that studio in the sky."

Russ Wilson said: "I cannot believe this...in fact I am struggling to believe it. Yes, very very sad and way too soon."

Dianne Hannant said: "A truly great talent that will be missed on our air waves. A sad day for us all."

Mr Roberts said it was nice to see so much love for Mr Kerr.

"It is great to see he meant so much to his audience. I bet he is up there starting Heaven FM."
