Mooloolaba gears up for huge New Year's Eve

TAKE 45,000 revellers, mix with a good dose of live music, add two fireworks displays and drizzle with a coating of festive spirit.

It's been the recipe for several memorable New Year's Eve parties at Mooloolaba and the countdown is on for another feast of fun this Saturday night.

The esplanade will once again host one of the Sunshine Coast's largest New Year parties and mayor Mark Jamieson expects it to rival anything dished up in previous years.

The fun will begin at 4pm, with lots of free family activities on offer including face painting, amusements and roving entertainment.

"New Year's Eve Mooloolaba is an event that can be enjoyed by the entire community,” Mr Jamieson said.

"We want everyone to celebrate safely, so if you are out this New Year's Eve, wherever you are, I encourage you, your families and friends to take care and look out for each other.”

This year's entertainment will be held across two stages and will include the much-loved Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as headline act Thirsty Merc.

Children will love Nick Jr.'s PAW Patrol Ready for Action Show, Poppy and Branch from the DreamWorks movie Trolls and the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the main stage from 5pm.

Down on the beach, the crew from SurfVolley Mooloolaba will provide free beach volleyball for all ages from 3pm to 6.30pm and local band Hoo8Hoo will warm up the crowd on the main stage from 7.20pm, leading in to the fireworks at 8.30pm.

Rockers Thirsty Merc will take to the main stage at 8.40pm, followed by dapper dressed Cheap Fakes at 10.15pm who will have the crowd grooving until the countdown to spectacular fireworks display at midnight.

Down on the Sea Stage, four DJs will play from 7pm until midnight.

Free buses will run across the Coast from 3pm, with timetables on council's website.

There will also be free park-and-ride buses running from Kawana Shoppingworld, the University of the Sunshine Coast and Maroochydore Bus Station.

Other celebrations will be held at Kings Beach and Coolum, with live music and fun for ages.

Visit council's website for more details on the event including traffic and transport information.
