Miffy creator Dick Bruna dies aged 89
CHILDREN'S author Dick Bruna, best known as the creator of the much-loved cartoon rabbit Miffy, has died aged 89.
His publisher Mercis said Bruna died peacefully in his sleep in the Dutch city of Utrecht.
Hendrik Magdalenus Bruna was a Dutch author, artist, illustrator and graphic designer.
He wrote and illustrated 124 books, but Miffy - known as Nijntje in the Netherlands - was the most popular.
There are 32 books about Miffy, which Bruna authored and illustrated, with about 85 million copies sold since the character's creation in 1955.
A museum in Utrecht dedicated to Miffy tweeted: "Today the sad news reached us that Dick Bruna has died."
