Meet your candidates running in division four
JAMIE HOOLAHAN
I HAVE been married for 20 years and am a father of 7 children (which includes 3 foster children.)
I am aware of the socio-economic issues and reduced employment across our region.
I will work tirelessly for my division and the Fraser Coast community to enhance and build a resilient future for each individual.
I would conduct a review of the rates system, which needs to include a reduction on the current interest of 11% charged for overdue rates.
I do not believe that the new sports precinct in its current format is at this time a priority infrastructure for the Fraser Coast region.
I aim to reduce red tape for new business, encourage new opportunities by giving incentives. Future success will be obtained when we work together on local challenges and priorities.
PERRY WARD
I COME from a time when Maryborough was a hub.
I went to school in Granville, then later to West State and Aldridge High School.
My twin boys, now 17, were some of the last kids to be born here.
Fees and charges have increased beyond comprehension. Councillors speak of vision and prosperous futures; but I see more empty shops
Changes need to be made to encourage, not hinder business.
I promise to listen to all the people and make the best choices from all the options.
I pledge to try to keep value in our rates so that people can see what they pay for and have more consultation if people have difficulties.
Big projects like the sports precinct can be good after all the needed infrastructure for our city is in place.
The Old Maryborough Site needs a revamp and made inviting. Business needs incentives to be here and grow, not disincentives.
ROBERT TRALAU
I AM a local resident with 20 years business experience
Like you I am a hard working resident who cares about Maryborough and I am committed to the future of our city.
My promise is to work hard to be accountable and listen to my constituents
My aim is to keep rates as low as possible a fairer rating system and to show compassion when it comes to rates arrears
The Hervey Bay sports precinct is a waste of your money.
I am not in favour of the sports precinct.
In regards to the old Maryborough town site, I am not in favour of a housing estate; I believe we should protect this area.
My priority will be to get the best for our local community I want to restore a strong local economy on the Maryborough CBD to support jobs
We need to have a long term plan with regards to infrastructure sewage and water for us to be able to grow our economy and population.
DANIEL SANDERSON
I AM an experienced, strong, positive young councillor, businessman, father of three, happily married and committed community member
I am committed to representing all generations. I have the experience to move forward building our region's future.
My vision of a vibrant region will be realised through my dedication and actions.
It is important to build and strengthen our region's assets through positive vision and actions. I'm committed to continuing CBD revitalisation throughout the CBD precinct.
I will aim to keep to lowest minimum possible whilst maintaining strong service delivery
I support the sports precinct for future generations. I'm committed to encouraging State and Federal funding to assist with costs.
I support the development and beautification of the foreshore to attract families and visitors.
I will continue to support and encourage infrastructure to ensure our region grows positively and is a great place to live, particularly roads, footpaths, kerbing and parks.
DARRYL GLEICH
I AM 52 and I was raised on a dairy farm at Granville.
I'm currently a prison officer, ex-Telstra technician, current business owner, parent to six children.
With broad experience covering farming, telecommunications, correctional services, small business ownership and a workplace representative allowing me to be a strong advocate for more jobs, wealth creation, less waste and better cohesion in the region.
My key promise is to be a councillor who will listen, act on your behalf and who will be an active member in our community.
We need a review on the rating system, quarterly discounts, and control through wise and accountable spending.
I think the sports precinct should be put on hold until the economic benefits are analysed and if supported by the community, funding should be sourced by State and Federal governments.
Basic things are needed like a network of footpaths, kerb and channelling.
In the future I see thriving service and manufacturing industries, tourist destination, the RV capital of Australia.
