Mark your calendars for these Queensland public holidays

THE first weekend of June has passed but Queensland residents still have a few months to wait until the Queen's Birthday public holiday.

The public holiday, previously held on the second Monday in June, was moved to the first week of October by the State Government in 2015.

This means Queensland will observe the public holiday on October 3 this year and October 2 in 2017.

The weekend coincides with the NRL and AFL grand final matches.

This is the weekend Labour Day was held on in 2015, which the State Government moved back to the first Monday in May.

Queensland and Western Australia are the only states which do not observe the Queen's Birthday holiday in June.

Further on in the year, Christmas and New Year's Day will give all Australian residents a couple of extra public holidays, as they both fall on weekends.

Sunshine Coast residents won't have to wait until October for the next public holiday though. Many will be making the most of the Sunshine Coast Show day as the show comes to Nambour on Friday.

Queenslanders might also want to book in leave early for 2017 to take advantage of a string of public holidays.

Starting with Good Friday on April 14, five public holidays fall within three weeks.

• Queen's Birthday: Monday, October 3

• Christmas Day: Sunday, December 25; Tuesday, December 27.

• Boxing Day: Monday, December 26.

• New Year's Day: Sunday, January 1; Monday, January 2.

• Australia Day: Thursday, January 26.

• Good Friday: Friday, April 14.

• The day after Good Friday: Saturday, April 15.

• Easter Monday: Monday, April 17.

• Anzac Day: Tuesday, April 25.

• Labour Day: Monday, May 1.

• Queen's Birthday: Monday, October 2.

• Christmas Day: Monday, December 25.

• Boxing Day: Tuesday, December 26.
