
UPDATE: Tsunami warning after major 8.0 earthquake
UPDATE Dec 17 11.10pm: THE Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has issued a tsunami threat to coastal areas of Papua New Guinea after an earlier 8.0 earthquake.

There are been a number of after shocks since then, one measuring 6.0.
Waves of up to one to three metres have been forecast to possibly hit the coast.
INITIAL REPORT 10.30pm December 17: THE United State Geological Society (USGS) website has reported a magnitude 8.0 earthquake off the coast of Papua New Guinea, 46km east of Taron.
It was reported just before 10pm NSW daylight saving time and struck at a depth of 103.2km.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a tsunami update saying there is no threat to Australia.
