Luxury expedition of reefs, rainforests and red desert

COMBINE your enjoyment of luxury cruising with an Australian outback adventure when you join the 21-night Deserts, Reefs and Rainforests exploration.

It's the latest tour offering from Cruise Traveller and takes you on the legendary Ghan train and aboard Ponant's fabulous ship Le Lapérouse for a voyage with fine French food and wine.

Le Lapérouse has the innovative Blue Eye lounge, the world's first underwater ship lounge. Located a few metres below water level, guests can capture the vision through two giant curved portholes and the acoustics of the sea transmitted via hydrophones.

Le Lapérouse is a new ship which is due to be launched in June 2018. It will have 92 cabins and suites with large windows and lounge areas opening onto the outside.

The Deserts, Reefs and Rainforests tour begins on January 19, 2019, with a flight to Adelaide where you'll be transferred by private car to one of the city's five-star hotels.

The next day it will be time to embark on The Ghan train and head towards Darwin.

Travel on The Ghan is in gold single double sleeper cabins with en-suite facilities, and lower and upper berths that convert to a three-seater lounge during the day or the compact gold single which has a bed that converts to a seat by day, and shared bathroom facilities.

There will be a range of off-train excursions to choose from at key stops including Alice Springs, Marla and Katherine.

Travelling on the two-night journey, you will be able to dine in the beautifully appointed Queen Adelaide restaurant. Australian wines, beers, base spirits and non-alcoholic beverages are included.

Once in Darwin you will be accommodated for three nights at the Hilton Darwin.

There will be plenty of time to take in the sights and feel of Australia's most northerly capital before flying to Cairns, to be transferred by private car to your Cairns hotel for a three night stay in glorious tropical North Queensland.

The 11-night expedition voyage aboard Le Lapérouse begins in Cairns, sails to Lizard Island in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, visits Hardy Reef to experience superb marine biodiversity (50 kilometres north-east of the Whitsunday Islands) and calls at Brisbane and Sydney.

Le Lapérouse stops at equally fascinating, but far less-known tropical sea gems - Willis Island in the Coral Sea, Percy Island and Musgrave Island.

Zodiac outings and shore visits with your expedition team are included.

Accompanied by the qualified marine and biological experts, you'll have plenty of opportunity for swimming, snorkelling and just taking it easy on unspoiled isles, complete with white-sand beaches and crystal clear water.

The luxury continues right to the end, when you'll be transferred by private car from the port in Sydney to airport for your flight home.

The tour costs start at $11,865. For full tour details, go to www.cruisetraveller.com.au.
