'Loving' grandmother killed in central Victoria

NEIGHBOURS of a grandmother who was killed at a home in central Victoria have described her as a "loving" and generous woman.

Police were called to a house on Alma Street, Maryborough, about 3:45am and found 52-year-old Karen Ashcroft with serious injuries.

Paramedics tried to revive her but she died at the scene.

A 39-year-old Maryborough man was arrested by police after an eight-hour search.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, police said.
