THE history books tell us it's 40 years since Elvis Presley died, but it might have been only last year as we continually hear his name touted.

The king of rock and roll died at age 42 on August 16, 1977. He left behind a legacy of myth, money and music.

In November this year his former wife of six years, Priscilla Presley, will be touring Australia on a speaking tour which the publicity people promise will be an open conversation in which audiences will have the "rare opportunity to share stories that will amaze the audience".

Added to this extraordinary tour are 40th anniversary tribute shows being promoted for venues across Australia.

For an in-depth look at Elvis's life, you can visit Elvis's former home and now museum, Graceland in Memphis.

There is a 450-room Guest House or the RV Park and Campground where you can stay and immerse yourself in everything Elvis. It's too late for this year, but perhaps next year you can get there in time for August's Elvis Week.

If you can wait another five months, Australia's Parkes Elvis Festival is rated as one of the best rock and roll parties around. Tickets go on sale next month for the January 10 to 14, 2018, event.

Between 1953 and 1977 the Tennessee-born musician and actor starred in 33 films, he recorded 141 albums and single, and reputedly one billion copies of his records have been sold worldwide.

Which Elvis movie was your favourite?

I remember Roustabout and Viva Las Vegas. Actually, I think I remember them all since they have been aired on afternoon and late night television some many times over the years it's hard to have not seen most, if not all of them. Every one of them seemed to have a bevy of beauties, heart-wrenching songs, a (pretend) punch-up and plenty of shaking of the mid-riff.

As to his number one hit songs; well there were just so many fabulous songs to dance to - Jailhouse Rock, Return to Sender, All Shook Up and Heartbreak Hotel.

It was a sad end for his fabulous entertainer.  A heart attack took him away too early, and alone, but at least his music, his movies and the myths around his many loves and beliefs live on.
