JANE Fonda has brutally shut down US talk show host Megyn Kelly, after being probed about her plastic surgery.
The screen legend, 79, was appearing alongside Robert Redford to promote their new movie Our Souls At Night when the interview took an awkward turn.
"You've been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically," Kelly said.
"You admit you've had work done, which I think is to your credit, but you look amazing. I read that you said you felt you're not proud to admit that you've had work done. Why not?"
But Fonda was not impressed.
"We really want to talk about that now?"
Despite the frosty reception, Kelly threw out another compliment in a bid to keep up the line of questioning, telling the star people always talk about how "amazing" she looks.
"Good attitude, good posture, I take care of myself. But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, Our Souls at Night, rather than plastic surgery," Fonda hit back.
It was a far cry from her response to similar questions put to her by The Guardian in 2015, to which she replied: "I wish I were brave enough to not do plastic surgery, but I think I bought myself a decade."
It's been a bad week for Kelly, with the cringeworthy exchange coming just one day after Debra Messing said that she "regretted" going on her show.
The actress had appeared alongside her Will & Grace co-stars to promote the show's revival, during which the host controversially joked with a fan: "Isn't it true that you became a lawyer, and you became gay, because of Will?"
Messing made her revelation on Instagram, responding to a commentator who asked her why they'd gone on the program at all.
"Honestly I didn't know it was MK [Megyn Kelly] until that morning," she replied. "The itinerary just said Today show appearance. Regret going on. Dismayed by her comments."
