It's now cheaper to climb into Ford's Everest

THOUGHT Ford's Everest large SUV was too expensive? Now, finally, you can get one for under $50,000.

The Ranger-based diesel-powered SUV now has a new entry-level model in the shape of the Ambiente RWD, costing $47,990 before on-roads for the five-seat version.

A seven-seat variant adds an extra $1000, while prices for all Everests have been dropped to make the big Ford more affordable.

The cheapest 4WD version you can get is a five-seat Ambiente at $52,990, while the seven seat 4WD is down a grand to $53,990. All come standard with Ford's SYNC 3, 8-inch touchscreen and dual-zone climate control.

Everest Trends are down $2k each - $53,990 for RWD and $58,990 4WD - while the range-topping Titanium 4WD is down nearly $2k to $74,990.

The new model follows the introduction late last year of the first two-wheel drive Everest with the Trend RWD.

All Everests use a 3.2-litre five-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
