FOR the past ten years Ron and Helen Geyl have hosted a gourmet food and wine evening at their Poets Café in Montville to raise money for RSPCA Qld.
This is year eleven and yes it's on again!
"We're truly grateful," said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty. "Ron and Helen have been so generous with their time and expertise and to think that this is the eleventh year is incredible."
Sadly the demands on the RSPCA's services are rising by over 10% every year. Its call centre answered over 300,000 calls last year and over 47,000 animals across Queensland were taken into its animal care centres.
Its Inspectors also investigated over 17,000 cases of animal cruelty and neglect. With an operating budget of nearly $40 million a year the charity relies almost entirely on public donations. "We are relying more and more on activities like this. The Sunshine Coast and Hinterland have been incredibly supportive."
The owners of Poets Café, Ron and Helen Geyl, donate all the food and beverages with Flame Hill Winery providing the wine, so that the RSPCA can raise as much as possible from the night.
"We're delighted to do it," said Mr Geyl. "We believe the RSPCA does an incredible job in very difficult circumstances. The staff and volunteers they have are simply amazing!"
