International Day of Yoga celebrated in Hervey Bay
AS life gets busier, it is important to take time for your body and mind.
This was the message from one of Hervey Bay's yoga teachers as yoga enthusiasts from all over the world stopped to celebrate International Day of Yoga.
As yoga grows in popularity all over the world, the special day is about raising awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga.
Jessica Wemmerslager from Ocean Tree Yoga Studio, said the day recognises the history of yoga and how it integrates within our lives.
"Yoga recognises people getting to know themselves on a deeper level without having religion attached," Jess said.
Jess, who has been teaching yoga for four years, said the practice of yoga was an important tool to clear the mind in all the busyness of life.
"It's not just a physical practice, it integrates the mind and helps people to de-stress," she said.
For Ocean Tree Yoga Studio's teacher Rhian Hunter, International Day of Yoga is about acknowledging and paying respect to the practice that has helped transform her own heart and mind as well as many others.
"No matter where we are in the world, it is a day that connects the entire yoga community as we celebrate and appreciate the practice as one," Rhian said.
