Insider's guide to caravanning the east coast
EVER wanted to take a driving tour of the east coast of Australia, covering everything from Queensland all the way down to South Australia?
If you're looking for an insider's view of what sights to see, where to stay and which wineries should be on your 'Must Do' list then you're in luck.
Two of our readers are currently on a six-week odyssey, travelling from the Sunshine Coast to South Australia (and yes, wineries are on their 'hit list') and back up the east coast of Australia.
Meet Sunshine Coast-based retirees Rob, 61, and Janine, 56, Caldwell, who are making the journey along with three other caravans and two pooches, who have gone along for the ride.
They are a week into their journey and have already had to alter their plans somewhat due to the recent rain and flooding in New South Wales, fast-tracking some sections of their route to avoid difficulties due to the weather.
Pit stops so far have included a free camp at Dalrymple Creek, Allora, a night at Top Tourist CP at Tamworth, and seeing an emu on the grounds of the Great Aussie Holiday Park at Bowna.
They have made it to Rutherglen in Victoria, where we're told a trip to the Wine Experience and Tourist Information Centre is a must see, along with the available fortified wine tasting.
There are 19 cellar doors to visit in the region, of which 10 are pet friendly, and by the look of Rob and Janine's photos much fun is to be had.
We will be bringing you updates on Rob and Janine's travels, but if you'd like to find out more about their journey visit https://onceuponaroad.wordpress.com/
