OPINION: Hysteria being promoted in wake of terrorism

I BELIEVE the hysteria in relation to 'terrorism' within Australia which is being promoted by our hopelessly incompetent government and supported by an equally inept opposition is nothing short of ridiculous and bordering on obscene.

There is a real lack of perspective and balance in the discussion surrounding this issue and it has been blown way out of proportion.

It is to be expected that our government, Intelligence Services, Border Security and Police would work together to keep Australians safe from any criminal acts. It is my assertion that they do this on a daily basis and do it well.

We regularly see news reports of major crime busts, drug and firearm seizures with arrests made and charges laid for all manner of crimes.

This is their role and duty.

Reports of Australians going over to fight in Syria have been in the news for quite some time.

I expect that Intelligence Services have a lot more information about them than is being made public and are monitoring them.

Again, this is their role and you would expect nothing less.

It therefore reeks of cheap opportunism that the Government is now ramping up its terrorism rhetoric.

The 'chatter' of this issue is detracting from the very real issues facing the Australian people.

One very real issue is not the remote threat of terrorist acts within Australia, but the lack of any quality leadership within our Parliament.

Tony Abbott may be talking tough 'to' the world stage but is the world stage even listening.

Sure, he is getting some air time in Australia but is this of any relevance to anybody else outside of Australia? … Anybody? …*chirping crickets* It has taken his disgusting budget off the front page to his benefit though.

None of this justifies the government committing us and a figure bandied at around half a billion dollars to a never-ending overseas war. In doing this, the government has well and truly dispelled their budget emergency lie.

Bill Shorten is a failure as an opposition leader.

The lies and secrecy of our incompetent government should be hammered in the media on a daily basis.

The inequity of their policies and their pandering to big business greed is disgusting and morally wrong.

Shorten should list them, highlight them and point out how they are to the detriment of people and the country but what has he done instead?

He has joined the government on a useless and costly crusade which will not benefit our country in any way.

Last week's story on the new mosque on the Sunshine Coast highlighted to me how off track a lot of people's thinking is.

We shouldn't be concerned about people of any faith going about a peaceful and socially responsible life. We should be concerned about criminal acts and anti-social behaviour committed by everybody: Black, white or brindle, Christian, Muslim or Athiest.

It has been heartening to read a lot of comments attached to news stories supporting the points which I have made above.

I believe the majority of the people in Australian society, from every background, are good and responsible citizens. We have the necessary Intelligence and Police services to deal with those who have criminal tendancies and the Courts to deal with them.

What we don't need is hysterical extremists pushing their agendas and provoking the unintelligent, misinformed types within our Community into ill-informed and unnecessary actions.

It may make for some sensational news, but it does nothing to promote a stable country or make the world a better place.

The question I pose to everybody is: What are you doing to make the World a better place?

It is time for the people of this Country to stand up and set the positive example by treating others with dignity and respect because our politicians at all levels certainly aren't.
