Hour-long car park search for mum-to-be at hospital

DRIVING around for an hour looking for a park at the hospital is not something a woman who is weeks away from giving birth should do.

But for Gracemere's Tegan, whose surname has been withheld, that's exactly what she does every week before her pregnancy scans.

Tegan, 29, said driving around the Rockhampton Hospital car park for such long periods was not what people in need of medical treatment needed.

"It took me nearly an hour to find a park; I was just driving in circles," she said. "I'm here every week for antenatal appointments because I'm high-risk and every time I come into town an hour before my appointment just so I have time to find a park.

"Something definitely needs to be done about the parking. I know I'm not the only one who drives in circles every time I come up here so it is a big issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later."

Tegan said there should be a parking facility built on the other side of the hospital to handle employee needs.

"I think they should build a staff-only car park over the road to start with because I think that would free up a lot of the parking," she said.

"I know there is a shuttle bus from the (Kern) arcade to the hospital but I have two small children and it's too much hassle to be waiting at the bus stop and getting them on and off a bus."
