Unexpected visitor brings joy to aged care home

A HORSE walks into a retirement home …

It sounds like the start to an extremely bad joke but there were no long faces when a horse made a surprise visit to the residents of the Padstow Heights aged care facility near Sydney.

The residents' faces lit up as the horse and its handler roamed around the facility, run by Christadelphian Aged Care, sparking memories and stories of their youth.

"Many of our residents loved reminiscing about horses they used to own and ride," a Facebook video of the visit noted. "The smiles say it all."

The feel-good video, which has been viewed nearly a million times, follows the theory that interaction with animals guards against the decline in mental wellbeing.
