Hope returns to region's hotel and motel industry

THE region's hotel and motel industry has been given a boost after a number of receivers' sales.

A recent auction by Power Jeffrey and Co had nine bidders and a number of enquires for the Chinchilla Great Western Motor Inn freehold and leasehold.

Business couple Bill and Brenda Rackemann bought it for $980,000.

The 1.983ha property has 26 units, a three-bedroom private residence and restaurant.

It isn't the only property sold recently with the company selling 11 in the past six months, which included five hotels and six motels.

Power and Jeffrey partner Peter Power believes it is a sign of revival in business confidence stemming from the downturn in coal and coal seam gas.

He said he expected further positive activity in south-east Queensland next year.
