Homeless man’s life changes
ONE man who was living off the streets in Forest Lake has had his life changed for the better with the help from local neighbours.
The resident, known only as Geremy, was living and sleeping in the Forest Lake Parklands after a series of misfortunes.
Locals who walk or run around the lake were quick to find Geremy and offer their assistance to help him get back up on his feet.
The Forest Lake community came to his aid to help raise money so he could return back to New Zealand and be closer to his family and friends, and away from the cold streets.
Forest Lake Councillor Charles Strunk has congratulated everyone from the community who opened their hearts to help a fellow human being in need.
"As councillor for Forest Lake, I wanted to congratulate the good work our local champions have done in helping a good man by the name of Geremy. Unfortunately, Geremy found himself homeless and sleeping at the Forest Lake Parklands," he said.
"The residents, community groups and businesses rallied together to raise much needed funds to help him.
"I can report that everyone's hard work has paid off. Our locals drove him to the airport and he is now safe and sound living near his family in New Zealand. I was moved to hear that he has settled well back in New Zealand."
Geremy will forever be known as a honorary Forest Lake resident, and he still keeps in touch with all of his new found friends via social media.
