GALLERY: Holden Insignia VXR is a wolf in sheep's clothing

IF ever there was a remedy to beating the workplace blues, then I believe I found it last Friday.

No, it's not a puppy, nor is it a million dollars, though both of those would do just fine to crack a smile on my face right now.

My ideal anti-depressant comes in the shape of a sedan, but not just any - the all new Holden Insignia.

Best described as a wolf in sheep's clothing, what looks like any other sedan, is certainly one big misleading point.

German designed and engineered and equipped with the very latest state-of-the-art technology, Insignia perfectly balances brains and brawn.

Handling and performance has been honed at the Nurburgring and backed by race-bred Brembo front brakes and leather appointed Recaro front sports seats.

Close up Holden Insignia is quite the detailed machine.

Muscular accents and indentations make for a sophisticated yet sporty exterior.

Add to that 20" wheels forged alloy wheels and chrome twin exhausts and you have yourself an impressive piece of automotive art.

Holden Insignia boasts a powerful and exhilarating twin-scroll turbo-charged V6 petrol engine producing 239kW of power and 435Nm of torque.

The outcome is adrenaline pumping and worth a "whoo hoo" or two when driving solo (as this very own reviewer did).

Instant gratification in seconds.

Insignia's 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel mounted paddle-shifters channels power to an adaptive all-wheel drivetrain.

For the 'spirited' driver, Insignia has three driving options to choose from.

Touring mode provides ride and handling characteristics balanced for comfort.

The Sport mode configures the characteristics to a sporty balance of performance and comfort.

The VXR mode configures the drive characteristics to a high performance setting, with more aggressive damper responses for superior control.

Insignia grips the corners tightly in VXR giving you greater confidence, not to mention a red illuminated dashboard for extra effect.

With great power comes a great stylish interior.

With a full suite of advanced electronic aides, VXR sedan leads from the front when it comes to technology.

Instead of the traditional instrument cluster on the dashboard, Insignia features a state-of-the-art 8-inch full-colour Driver Information Centre, central to the driver's vision.

This high-resolution screen can be personally tailored to a variety of display modes, including VXR mode for performance information or sport mode for more detailed media information.

Kick back and feel support and comfort like no other in the Recaro front sports seats ideal for the Insignia's aggressively playful persona.

Holden Insignia also features technologies such as Bluetooth, satellite navigation and an impressive, premium 7-speaker stereo system to crank your favourite tunes too - of course the sound of Insignia alone, is music to one's ears.

For your safety and peace of mind, Holden Insignia is loaded with safety features including lane departure warning, blind spot alert, reverse traffic alert, front and rear park assist, rain sensing wipers and rear view cameras just to name a few.

All this and more, Holden Insignia is a car to delight and impress.
