Decision to close Grafton branch of HCF was 'difficult'
UPDATE, 4.30pm: A spokeswoman for HCF, which is not-for-profit health fund, described the decision to close the Grafton branch as "difficult".
"The HCF branch in Grafton has been an important part of the local community for 30 years," she said.
"The branch has long been a hub for local HCF members, who have relied on us to help them with their health insurance needs and navigate the health care system.
"Unfortunately, it is not sustainable for us to keep this branch open as it services a small number of members."
She said HCF was working to find the sole employee in the branch, acting customer services officer Rebecca Lane, an alternative position within the HCF network.
She said HCF will continue to support members in the Grafton area via our Australian based customer service teams on 13 13 34, and online via the HCF website and the HCF My Membership app (for at home claims and management of your membership).
"We are also in the process of making arrangements for drop box in Grafton for members to submit paper based claims locally - details will be available shortly," she said.
PREVIOUSLY: THE LAST health insurance fund with a shopfront in Grafton is about to close its doors at 30 years operation in the region.
Members of HCF in Grafton have received letters advising them the office in the Link between Shoppingworld and Prince St will close on October 13 at 3pm.
The letter said the decision to close the office followed a national review of branch locations and how members accessed services.
The letter said members accessed services online or via an mobile app or on the telephone.
But customers who contacted The Daily Examiner were not happy with the decision.
One man, who did not want to be named, said he did not want to do business over the internet and preferred to do his transactions face to face.
A customer, Cathie McGrath, gave the closure a thumbs down for tomorrow's Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down in the paper.
"Thumbs down to HCF for their decision to close the Grafton branch. Will miss Bec's smiling face & wonderful customer service," she wrote.
The letter thanked the branch's customer service operator Rebecca Lane for her commitment to her job and the local community.
HCF has been contacted for comment.
