Have your say on better aged care services

IT'S time to have your say on the information and support services provided to consumers of home care packages and residential aged care services.

Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Ken Wyatt said the consultation period on the draft National Aged Care Advocacy Framework was now open.

"Advocacy is a fundamental element of the aged care system, and consumers of aged care services, their families or representatives have the right to participate in decisions about the services they receive and to have their views heard," he said.

Mr Wyatt said the recent review of commonwealth aged care advocacy services looked at how consumers could best use the aged care system, including supporting them to have increased choice and control.

"The development of this framework was a key finding of this review and will help support a nationally consistent approach to the delivery of commonwealth-funded advocacy services for aged care consumers."

Consultation on the draft National Aged Care Advocacy Framework closes on October 7, 2016.

Consumer lobby group National Seniors said it would be making a submission and welcomed input from members.

If you would like to raise any issues with them, you can do so by emailing policy@nationalseniors.com.au.
