Group Guide: Gold Coast


WE welcome all over 50s to our activities, which include: line dancing, new vogue dancing, Scottish, square and tap dancing, tai chi and light exercise. We celebrate Christmas twice a year and organise other social functions throughout the year. Our club motto is "finding friends, fun and fitness" - if you are interested in these three things, please come along and join us. We are a very active and friendly club.

WE meet each fortnight at great restaurants around the Gold Coast. All men welcome for beer, wine and food. We critique restaurants and have guest speakers but most of all we have a lot of fun. UNIVERSITY of the Third Age welcomes new members who are over 50 and looking to continue their learning in a fun and social group setting. Take a look at our website, U3ABroad beach.com, to get a flavour of our broad range of courses, activities and excursions and advice on how to join us. Our activities are centred on Merrimac State High School and opportunities include ukulele, languages, history and memoirs, mahjong, yoga, art, choral singing, card playing, walking, armchair travel, discussion group, lunches and outings. We are also always delighted to have volunteers to tutor new courses.



HAVE you experienced the loss of a loved one? Blue Care offers a free, structured program of two hours a week over eight weeks within a safe and secure small-group setting.

The aim of the program is to: provide information on the grieving process; offer practical advice; provide emotional and social support in a group setting; and provide effective coping skills. WE are proud to announce that they will be holding a celebration of International Women's Day 2020 at the South Tweed Sports Club on Monday, March 9, from 10am (DST) for morning tea. An excellent program of influential and inspiring women is guaranteed and will include Linda Robertson, stem cell therapist who is studying the potential of stem cells for the treatment of incurable neurological diseases. Natalie Trengrove, a veteran of children's theatre, actor, director and writer with the Tweed Theatre Company since its inception. will also attend. A Learning for Life student currently receiving sponsorship through VIEW Clubs of Australia will also speak. The event will be compered by Maggie-Anne Leybourne of BAM Corporate Events, a highly regarded events organiser and dedicated supporter of VIEW Clubs of Australia. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program and a trading table will be available. Cost is $16. OUR club supports The Smith Family plus nine Learning For Life students. We hold our meetings and lunch on the second Tuesday of each month at the Southport Golf Club, meeting at 11.30am for lunch at noon. Always with an interesting guest speaker.

OUR club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at Burleigh Heads Surf Lifesaving Club. Morning tea is enjoyed at 10am, followed by a meeting at 10.30am, which includes an interesting speaker. OUR members celebrated Christmas at Voco Hotel, Surfers Paradise, with a sumptuous three-course luncheon. Beautifully decorated tables welcomed our large group, with Voco staff greeting us warmly. Christmas crackers, smiles and a delicious luncheon with special drinks was the order of the day. We are a growing mixed club undertaking many interesting social activities. WE finished a great year of activities with a well-attended Christmas lunch at Palmer Golf Club. Members dressed up for Christmas and we had a three- piece band and singer to entertain us and sing Christmas carols. During the year, members enjoyed bus trips, outings, dine-outs and excellent guest speakers, social interaction, fun and friendship.
