Given birth to 69 kids, anyone? One mum did...

IMAGINE giving birth to 69 children.

That's one woman's claim to fame after she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. Ouch.

After Mother's Day and celebrating our amazing mums, let's also take a minute to look at a couple of the Guinness World Record holding mums across the world. And feel a little blessed we were able to keep our offspring numbers a little lower than the above.

Most prolific mother: The greatest officially recorded number of children born to one mother is 69, to the wife of Feodor Vassilyev (1707-1782), a peasant from Shuya, Russia. She gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.

Most sets of triplets - same mother: Maddalena Granata of Italy, gave birth to a whopping 15 sets of triplets between 1839 and 1886.

First mother-child supercentenarians: Supercentenarians are people who have attained an age greater than 110. Mary P Romero Zielke Cota (USA, born 1870) died in 1982 aged 112 years 17 days. Her daughter, Rosabell Zielke Champion Fenstermaker (born 1893), was equally long-lived and died in 2005 aged 111 years 344 days.

For those still searching for a Mother's Day present, and you're an 'actions speak louder than words' kind of person, why not grab onto mum and never let her go. At least not for 24 hours 33 minutes. That's how long Canadians Ron O'Neil and Theresa Kerr clinched for the longest hug at Centennial Beach in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, from June 12-13, 2010.

And don't miss Hey Mumma - Australian Regional Media's newest series launching June 6. We've pulled in four everyday mums from across the regions, teamed them up with swimming superstar Susie O'Neill and got them discussing everything about motherhood. We'll have weekly webisodes, behind the scenes videos and stacks of stories to create this mumosphere, right here on our website every day and in print every Saturday for six weeks.
