Get in early for wine and dine long weekend train tour

THE Riverina's finest wine and food will be showcased during the October long-weekend's four-day train adventure being offered by Cruise Express.

The Long Weekend Rail Adventure starts when the privately chartered heritage train departs Sydney's Central Station on September 28. Complete with buffet, dining and compartment cars from the 1930s and 40s, and pulled by the 62-year- old, 4204 Streamliner locomotive, the train will stop for lunch at the historic 139-year-old Junee Railway Station and for afternoon tea in Narrandera - the gateway to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, before arriving early evening in the Italian-flavoured foodie haven of Griffith.

Day two will dawn with a morning sightseeing tour of Griffith followed by a tour of Randall Organic Rice Farm and lunch prepared by chefs from Hungry Fox Bistro, and tastings of local produce.

From there the group then travel to Southern Cotton Gin for an exclusive insight to how cotton is processed before heading to a private, wine-paired dinner at the iconic McWilliams Winery.

Day three begins with morning tea at the rose-filled sanctuary of Careri's Garden, followed by an Italian-style lunch at Piccolo Farm where guests will be able to tour the farm's orange groves. Then they will be treated to a cooking demonstration and meal featuring paired wines and fresh local ingredients.

TRAVEL: The Long Weekend Rail Adventure will include lots of chances to taste the produce from the fertile NSW valley.

The group will continue to celebrate and explore Griffith's rich Italian origins at dinner with a sumptuous, private dining experience at Zecca Handmade Italian which offers seasonal and authentic, regional Italian food, using locally sourced wines and fresh produce.

The final day of the tour will see guests rejoin the heritage train for the day trip back to Sydney, with a stop at Temora to visit Koorambi Winez and to enjoy a  barbecue in the vineyard. A late afternoon stop will be made at Goulburn before the tour ends mid-evening back in Sydney.

The tour cost of $1990 per person twin share or $2290 for single travellers, and includes eight meals and daily sightseeing.
