'Absolutely appalled': Queen's conduct would upset monarchs
WHEN you imagine the royal family, do you picture gala events, expensive tastes and luxurious lifestyles beyond your wildest dreams?
Well, you have been literally short-changed because the Queen's frugality is so out of line for a monarch that she would have offended her forbearers.
In fact, they would have been "absolutely appalled" according to the former curator of Historic Royal Palaces Simon Thurley.
"Elizabeth and Henry VIII would be absolutely appalled because, unlike our queen, they lived in a very public environment," Thurley said according to The Telegraph.
The Queen is noted for her cost-slashing ways, such as keeping cornflakes in a Tupperware container or using a small electric heater rather than the large, ornate fireplace in Balmoral Castle.
Thurley, however, said the tightening of the purse strings was just the Queen keeping in line with modern practices.
"(It's) a generational thing, rather than anything to with being a monarch," Thurley said.
