First look at Angelina Jolie's Australian-filmed Unbroken

THE first sneak peek at Angelina Jolie's Australian-filmed war epic Unbroken has been released.

The movie, which recently wrapped filming in Sydney and Queensland, is based on the real-life story of American war veteran Louis Zamperini.

The three-minute clip features an interview with the real-life Zamperini , now 96, interspersed with scenes from the film and Second World War footage as well as audio by newscaster Tom Brokaw.

"To persevere I think is important for everybody," Zamperini says.

"Don't give up, don't give in. There's always an answer to everything."

Those words carry serious weight considering Zamperini was an Olympian and survived two harrowing wartime experiences: spending more than a month adrift at sea and being captured as a Japanese prisoner of war during the Second World War.

Unbroken opens in the US and UK on Christmas Day and in other countries in early 2015.
