Firefighters flee from helmet-hiding snake

FIREFIGHTERS face some of the most terrifying situations on the planet but even they were no match for the fear factor of a red-bellied black snake.

The crew at the Rutherford Fire Station in New South Wales' Lower Hunter Valley were left with little option but to flee when they found one of Australia's most iconic serpents coiled up in a helmet.

Calling in backup, a local snake handler came to the rescue and corralled the snake as the firefighters watched on with some mirth.

"Look at all the brave firemen eh?" a person can be heard on the video which was posted to Facebook.

Even the heroes need a hero from time to time.
