Everyone’s invited to Australia Day at Evandale
Get set for another bonza Australia Day at Evandale Parklands on Tuesday 26 January.
The iconic event, which is celebrating 35 years, is on from 9am to 3pm and offers traditional favourites like sheep shearing and pig racing along with fabulous entertainment.
Mayor Tom Tate said celebrating Australia Day with the community was a wonderful way to show our national pride and enjoy a great day out.
"It's the kind of day where there's something on offer for all ages so I extend a warm invitation to everyone to come down to Evandale and have some fair dinkum fun," he said.
The City of Gold Coast Stage will feature entertainment from Juzzie Smith, Walrus and the Carpenter, Jake Whittaker Band, Cook Island Dancers and the Big Kitty Band.
At the Aussie Stage, cheer on contestants and chefs at the Aussie Ready Steady Cook-Off or have a laugh with the Magic Comedy Show.
Thrill of the day will be the "Wheel of Death" involving daredevil acrobatic skills. Activities in the Kids' Zone include animal nursery, pony rides, craft, face painting, circus workshops and carnival rides along with shows.
Bring the bathers as Aquasplash Water Park will operate on the lake behind The Arts Centre - just $5 for 30 minutes of fun and excitement on the water. On the Bush Track, you'll find wood turners, spinners and weavers, automobile restoration, the Wasp Creek Rural Fire Brigade, Wild Rangers wildlife encounters and camel rides.
A number of the enormously popular food trucks will be on site to ensure you won't go hungry. The JJ Richards Woodchop Arena will play host to Australia's oldest sport, where Queensland's finest axemen will show the youngsters how it's done.
The day includes the Griffith University Gift Track Footrace, part of a national series, with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs.
Our newest citizens will be sworn in at an official citizenship ceremony in the Council Chambers building. Limited parking will be available onsite or catch the free shuttle bus from the Gold Coast Turf Club.
