Malcolm Turnbull's Coalition MPs have “voted against” themselves during a House of Representatives session in Canberra. It's the second parliamentary mistake in a month for the Prime Minister.

Embarrasment for Turnbull as Coalition votes against itself

COALITION MPs last night "voted against" themselves during a House of Representatives session in Canberra.

Financial Services Minister Kelly O' Dwyer mistakenly included a Labor amendment calling on the Coalition to "explain why it has failed to close tax loopholes and increase transparency in Australia", The Australian reports.

The lower house, supported by the Coalition, passed the bill, giving Labor ammunition to attack Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The mistake follows last month's embarrassment when Mr Turnbull was forced to admonish his MPs because some left parliament early.

Their exodus cost the government a number of procedural votes in the chamber.

"Either the government had a moment of truth and realised how bad they were and felt compelled to vote with us, or they are as incompetent as they have looked every day that this parliament has met," manager of opposition business Tony Burke said.

"In those (first) 10 days (of sitting) the government has lost control of the floor of the House of Representatives by some of them (Coalition MPs) going home.

"Then today they've lost control on the floor of the House of Representatives when they all stayed."
