Elderly driver taken to hospital after single-vehicle crash

AN ELDERLY man has been taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash on the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd, near Chapel Rd at Nikenbah, about 7.30am on Friday.

Senior Constable Craig Palethorpe said the vehicle ran off the road, travelled about 100m and hit a road sign and a gas line sign before coming to rest on its side in a gully.

He said the male driver was the only occupant of the F350 ute and he was uninjured but taken to hospital as a precaution.

Snr Const Palethorpe said the cause of the crash was unknown at this stage.

Traffic was slowed to a single lane past the crash site while a tow truck driver worked to remove the ute.
