Quite the shock: Lightning strike lights up Eiffel Tower

THE Eiffel Tower can be quite a shock when you see it up close and personal.

But not as shocking as it would have been had you visited the world-famous monument the same time it was struck by a bolt of lightning.

But that was the case for tourists who braved appalling conditions to visit the tower during a thunderstorm in Paris on Monday (French time).

The storms have caused chaos across parts of northern and western France with locals put on orange storm alert - the country's second highest alert level.
