Easy half a million for Killarney retirees

A LUCKY Killarney woman and her husband have pocketed half a million dollars after scoring big in Lotto.

A Golden Casket official called the woman, who wants to remain anonymous, with the life-changing news she had won a first division prize worth more than $500,000 in the Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

"I rarely buy Saturday Gold Lotto tickets," the winner said. "I'd had a small win on another game and when I was at the newsagency I considered getting another ticket but walked away.

"After I'd done some shopping, I thought, no I will go back and get myself a small ticket in Saturday's draw and it won."

Killarney Newsagency owner Jaunita Rawle, who sold the winning ticket, said it was the most she had seen won in her 20 years in Killarney.

"We had a $100,000 winner in Powerball, but that would have been well over five years ago.

"We are often busy on a Saturday because of all the travellers, but I was just so pleased to hear it was a local who won."

The winner said she and her husband would be using the funds wisely.

"We're retired so we have to watch our pennies and we've been wondering how long our savings will last," she said.

"I can't say what we might do with our division one win but I'd love to do some renovations."
