Drinking soft drink a shortcut to putting on the kilos
OBESE and overweight Australians drink twice as much soft drink as people who are underweight or on a healthy weight, a study has shown.
The Australian Health Survey Results for Sweetened Beverages revealed nearly half of the 10 million overweight and obese Australians drank sweetened drinks - with some drinking more than one litre per day.

Cancer Council Queensland's Katie Clift said there was a clear link between the over consumption of sweetened beverages and rates of overweight and obesity.
She said drinking a sugar-packed soft drink could quickly exceed the World Health Organisation's six teaspoons recommended daily maximum sugar intake.
"Just a few sips of a sweetened beverage could exceed that recommendation, undoing the benefits of an otherwise healthy diet."
