Downlands College musical to showcase depth of talent

YOUR STORY: Downlands College is proud to announce that the 2016 College musical will be the much loved Les Misérables - the school edition.

Performances will be held over three nights on Thursday April 28, Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30, with a matinee performance on the Saturday.

More than 100 talented students from Years 7 - 12 are involved in the production.

The cast has been rehearsing twice a week and will participate in an intensive musical camp in the final week of school holidays.

The performances are expected to attract a total of 2000 people from Toowoomba and other Southern and Western Queensland towns and cities, with parents, relatives and past students all keen to attend.

Musical Director and Curriculum Leader - The Arts Shane Tooley chose Les Misérables for this year's musical due to the power of its music and story.

He also believes it was a natural choice for the vast array of talent currently at Downlands.

"Even before we conducted auditions, it was clear that we had a depth of talent that would suit this show," Mr Toohey said.

"It is the world's most beloved musical and I believe it will be the musical students talk about well after the final performance."

Lead roles are as follows:

• Jean Valjean: Jeremy Beamish (Understudy: Brett Pulsford)
• Javert: Oscar Thelander
• Marius: Callum Ford (Understudy: Darcy Brennan)
• Eponine: Breanna Eacersall (Understudy: Molly Brennan)
