DODGY: Latest scam doing rounds in Toowoomba

A TOOWOOMBA woman is warning of the latest scam to hit the Darling Downs.

Katrina Adnams says she was approached by a man purporting to be from a local rental shop, but who was actually a scammer.

"I had a guy posing as a Radio Rentals guy last night at my door around 6pm, saying I had to pay my bill," she said.

Ms Adnams said the man was clean shaven with dark hair, tall, slim and had a red tee shirt blue work pants and brown work boots.

She said the incident happened in Kearneys Spring near Riethmuller St.

A phone call to the rental store confirmed he wasn't an employee.

Ms Adnams said she then contacted police.

Robert Billinghurst said it was commonplace way to get information which could be used for identity theft or to scare them into giving money.

"The thing is, it is so easy to get people's info now - and sorry to say - that some people get 'shocked' by people just rocking up and scaring them into paying them," he said.
