Disappointing to see hospital used as political football

HOW discouraging to see such an important issue as a fully-functioning medical school on the Sunshine Coast become just another political football.

This sorry saga shows quite clearly that, as we suspect, the priority in this debate is the mayor and MPs' political egos and grab for headlines.

Think what we could achieve for the Sunshine Coast were we to meld all the many skills and talents of our political and business leaders - minus the egos - into a force for good. We would be unstoppable as a boom region.

Instead, we are bickering about the non-transparent mayor's secret campaign funding, who should and should not be lobbying for the extra medical school places, name calling and grandstanding press conferences.

The only issue here is the allocation of extra placings to get the Sunshine Coast University Hospital medical school up and running as soon as possible.

Then we can all stand around and slap each other on the back and claim the credit.
