De Paul Manor residents take on Gold Coast Marathon
THIRTY-six hardy souls, with an age range up to and including the 80's, completed the 5.7-kilometre walk during the Gold Coast Marathon weekend in record time.
Staff, friends and parishioners joined with De Paul Manor Estate residents bright and early, with race numbers attached to their shirts - then marched out into the brisk morning air.
Spokeswoman Sue Benseman said the Saturday morning was picture perfect.
"The Broadwater was like a mirror and confirmed to us all just why we live where we do," Sue said.
"Not a breath of wind, just the initial jostling of thousands of eager bodies getting over the start line, lots of camaraderie along the route, cheer squads on the sidelines egging us on, and everyone delighted to both complete and compete in this wonderful event."
This is the third year De Paul Manor has taken part in the "challenge".
After the effort, a champagne breakfast was shared with fellow residents.
De Paul Manor Estate offers lifestyle, companionship and security for people 65 years and over in a caring community at Ashmore.
